James spent his formative years in Australia on a large avocado farm by the sea which began a lifelong obsession with nature. A love of biology and geography led him to a degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Canberra and the University of Guelph. James has worked with golf course designers, architects, residential landscape designers and has been commissioned to design and build several private gardens. One such garden in the Squamish Valley, British Columbia, features over 100 metres of drystone granite rock walls, all hand built by James.
He is inspired by the work of British environmental sculptor, Andy Goldsworthy, US architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and Brazilian landscape architect, Roberto Burle Marx. James' design philosophy incorporates the client’s personality and needs with a 'sense of place' site specific design.
